Lindsay Matteson began her career as a bartender while she was in college studying theater in Portland, OR in 2008. In 2011 she moved to New York City to pursue her career, where she bartended at such award-winning bars as the Flatiron Lounge and Pouring Ribbons. Because of her love of amaro she started bartending at Amor y Amargo where she went on to become the head bartender. With Amor y Amargo she created and ran two national pop-up programs.
In 2017 Lindsay moved to Seattle, WA, and bartended at Canon, where she expanded her knowledge about rare whiskies and vintage spirits. She moved on to the internationally-recognized amaro bar Barnacle with the Sea Creatures restaurant group. Lindsay became the Bar Manager at their James Beard-nominated flagship restaurant The Walrus and the Carpenter. Lindsay now manages the cocktail bar Barnacle as well as the Walrus and the Carpenter.
Additionally, Lindsay began consulting with Movers and Shakers Consulting in 2015 and has since trained hundreds of bartenders nationally. She worked as the Northwest Brand Ambassador for Q Mixers in 2018-2019.
During the pandemic, Lindsay returned to her old love of painting and created a book of her original cocktail paintings and recipes. She also has expanded her work to cocktail prints, with custom work available on request. Her work is available on Etsy here.
Lindsay is also focused on the emotional health of hospitality workers. She has advance training in theater, trauma healing, and Junginan shadow work. She has combined these diverse techniques to manager her own emotional and mental health behind the bar. She teaches seminars on hospitality and emotional health for the bartender. Since 2015 she has taught with Bar Convent Brooklyn, the Bar Institute, the Canadian Bartenders’ Association, the United States Bartenders’ Guild, and Portland Cocktail Week.
When not bartending, Lindsay enjoys travel with her partner, spending time with her spicy cat Valentine, and finding the best ice cream in any city.
